About Mark
Career
Mark Spurlin has a deep interest and respect for combining man-made infrastructure with natural surroundings to create beautiful spaces to enjoy. The built environment’s effect on individuals and community is something Mark learned to appreciate at an early age. He began his career after earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture from Mississippi State University. There he studied the value of intentional planning, focusing on projects ranging from urban communities to small gathering spaces. Mark later acquired a Master’s Degree in Building Construction from Auburn University, which prepared him for a path in the field of construction.
Upon graduating from Auburn, Mark was mentored by an experienced team of design and construction professionals in the commercial industry. Mark also worked nearly five years as an Architectural Procurement Coordinator for U.S. Embassy projects around the world.
In 2017, Mark’s wife Jessica, an Interior Designer with a degree from The University of Alabama, founded Jessica Spurlin Interiors and in 2020, the two began to build a vision for Mark to join the residential industry, opening a sister company, Mark Spurlin Construction Co..
Family
Mark married Jessica, a native of Mathews, AL, in the summer of 2015. After experiencing infant loss of their first daughter Olivia, the two later had three additional daughters, Lottie, 8; Lucy, 5; and Millie, 1.
The Spurlin family is actively involved in the Pike Road and Montgomery communities where they have lived since birth. The Spurlins are members of Taylor Road Baptist Church where Jessica’s family has been active for over 30 years. From serving in various capacities at their church such as building and grounds management and women’s and children’s ministries to supporting and participating in local organizations such as MANE, First Choice and Distinguished Young Women of Alabama, the Spurlins have a heart for serving.
Their oldest daughter Lottie attends Pike Road Elementary School where Lucy will be joining Lottie in August.
Leadership
Working professionally as a residential contractor has given Mark the opportunity to work with a diverse range of clientele and craftsmen. This has given him an understanding of the value of professional collaboration with others and an appreciation of those with expertise in their field. As a mayoral candidate, Mark plans to apply these same skills and experience to leading groups and individuals in order to develop and execute a successful future for the Town of Pike Road and its residents.
Vision
Mark and Jessica work daily with their clients to establish needs and priorities within their financial parameters, maximizing benefits for clients and their families. The ability to assemble a proper team is key to execute each project they tackle.
Mark knows that as Mayor he could apply this same experience and team-building process at the community level. He plans to create a platform for the citizens of Pike Road to once again be heard, so that needs can be identified and dreams can be realized with the assistance of the town’s talented pool of citizens.
